Wahoo!

I now have a California Driver's License. It arrived in the mail today, and I already memorized the number. :)

Coming to California: Edited Out Stuff

Yeah, I didn't have anything really written down for me to say. I made a list of key points, but it was pretty much whatever I wanted. Here is the stuff that came out, but not right.

Hello California. How things are going so far.

Just talking about the moving to California, where I have been, where I am now, and how things are.

That Darn California Sun

I was filming a video, with a summary of the California experience so far, but I ended up on a crazy speech about the sun. I'm editing that other video, but will post this in the meantime.

Job starts monday

So, my new position, will officially start monday. This should be a fun and interesting learning experience.

Over the next 4 days, I will try to get acquainted with the city, and also try to find a place to live. Granted, I can't really full on do that, until I have received at least my first paycheck.

*crosses fingers for early paycheck*

We have a plan, and that is to leave monday

So, we scraped the Sunday departure, in favor of a Monday departure. The plan, as far as it stands will go accordingly:

Monday - Norcross, Georgia to Jackson, Mississipi - 400 miles
Tuesday - Jackson, Mississipi to Dallas, Texas - 404 miles
Wednesday - Dallas, Texas to Midland, Texas - 330 miles
Thursday - Midland, Texas to El Paso, Texas - 305 miles
Friday - El Paso, Texas to Phoenix, Arizona - 429 miles
Saturday - Phoenix, Arizona to Los Angels, California - 372 miles

I might end up doing Dallas, Texas to Phoenix, Arizona, granted, that's a bit much. If I was driving with someone else, the itinerary would be much shorter, but I want to be comfortable driving there, and not just rushing as fast as I can.

A AAA Membership and some other stuff

Ok, so some friends suggested I get a AAA membership, so I can get some nice discounts, and also the convenience they bring on such long trips.

So I got that, got my number, and I am good to go.

I also called my bank, and told them I would be making the trip. I don't want to be in a situation where I can't use my bank card. That would just suck.

The packing plan

I am moving to California, in a very lightweight fashion.

I have some books that I will be bringing, and everything else will be pretty much necessities, and clothing. I will try make it seem like I am just a driver, and try to fit as much as I can on the trunk.

It will be the fist time I will travel such a long distance. I am excited, yet just a tad skittish, but the worry is just basic.

When I woke up, I will be picking out the clothing I need, and packing it into bags. I should be ready to move out by Sunday, hopefully.

Getting the Car Ready

The car has been cleaned and vacuumed.

I took it to the shop today, got the oil changed, and replaced the worn brakes.

I might need to get my transmission fluid flushed tomorrow. I never really changed it, but it's $170. Granted, if my transmission fails, I am plain old screwed. So, on that situation, it's better to be safe, than stuck in the middle of nowhere.

The Job Offer

I interviewed for a job, here in Atlanta, on Wednesday (2007/03/21). The executive of the company flew back to California Thursday (2007/03/22), and later that afternoon called me, and offered me the job.

So, now it's Friday (2007/03/23), and I'm starting to pack to move to California.

The job is in Irvine, CA. I will be assisting the Main Software Engineer/Analyst for a Apartment Management Company.

They want me to move there ASAP. I am going to drive.
